I am so excited that our camper finally came home from storage. Since it was cleaned and loaded at the end of the season last year I didn’t have much to do before we headed camping last weekend. Just had to pack our clothes and groceries and off we went.

My brother and his Girlfriend spent the weekend with us which was very nice. Just us adults all weekend !! We did the normal things like campfires, walks and of course Bingo.

People always ask me how I do not get tired of camping, well here are my reasons……..

How could I ever get tired of sitting by a campfire with friends and family ? Watching the flames, chit chatting about everyday life and such. I love sitting back looking at the stars above and getting lost in the sky. Ok, so the hot dogs over the fire doesn’t hurt, lol.

I also enjoy rafting which we did not do this time. That won’t start until the weather and water is warmer. Rafting is very relaxing for me. Just sitting in the raft, floating down the river……..really how much better can it get ?

Let’s talk about the food…….steaks cooked over the open fire with potatoes and corn on the cob.  Spare ribs, baked beans with a veggie. I must admit we eat better when camping than any other time. Or shall I say we eat more ! I’m getting hungry just thinking of camping.

When the kids do go with us we play Bingo, mini golf, horseshoes, yahtzee and a lot of other games. Things we just seem not to have the time to do while at home. With jobs, housework, the kids always on the run, we really enjoy being able to spend time as a family.

Then there is a the walks, seeing who can find the biggest or smallest frog is always a good laugh. We take pictures of each to prove who found the biggest or smallest. Somehow I always claim that picture was mine, lol. We all enjoy the fresh air, the colors of nature and just seeing what we can find.

Now, how could I ever get tired of camping when there is so much to see and do, quailty time spent with family and friends, complete relaxation and great food :)

Calming Down…

April 22, 2008

As many of you know I have hand my hands full with my 18 yr olds health issues. It all started off with sharp chest pains that were very frequent but short, weight gain and always cold. Our family Dr thought it was Acid Reflux and sent her to a Gastrologist. On our first visit with the Gastrologist he felt it may be her Thyroid and ordered a blood test. The results came in that she has Hypothyroidism, under active Thyroid.

After much time at Barnes and Nobles, I have learned a lot about this. More than the Dr informed me, oh wait all he did was state she had Hypothyroidism and needs to take Snythroid and to come back in two weeks.

All I can say is it is a good thing that our Dr referred her to the Gastrologist since the Family Dr did not think to check her Thyroid. Hum, always cold, gaining weight rapidly, dry skin, brittle nails, fatigue, slow pulse, slow reflexs, getting sick more often and stiffness in her joints – all very common signs that the thyroid should be checked.

Now that the issues has been found she was put on Synthroid. But of course she broke out with a rash under both arm pits. I called the Dr’s office and was told to stop her Snythroid until the following Tuesday. If the rash was gone that is. I called back on Monday to informed them the rash was not gone. They made an appointment for her the next day. Back to the family Dr we went to be told by the Dr that I shouldn’t of stopped her Synthroid, well excuse me his office staff told me to stop it. He checked her arm pits and told her to put anti-fungal spray on them. Mind you it did not work.

When she met me at the Dr’s her face and hands swelled up to the point I thought she was going to explode. The Dr told us this is common. There was nothing we can do but to wait until the Synthroid got into her system. Some days will be better than others and not to be surprised if she continues to swell here and there.

The Dr feels the chest pains are also from the thyroid not working properly. Seems the one muscle in her chest is sore from the sharp pains so she now has to use a heating pad for 5 minutes each morning and then ice for 5 minutes at bedtime. The chest pains haven’t stopped but the muscle is better.

As for the rapid heart rate and heart flutters at times, the Dr said is Anxiety attacks, now he claims it is just another symptom that will get better with the Synthroid.

This morning we are off to the Gastrologist for him to perform a Flexible Sigmoidoscopy on her thanks to a bloody bowel movement. In 30 minutes she has the pleasure of doing her first enema.  Then another, 30 minutes later. I cant wait to see how this goes……”Mom, I can’t do this,” “Mom, I can’t get it in.” “Holy shit this hurts” lol. Nothing like watching my 18 yr old become 5yrs old again, lol.

As with any Parent, it is killing me to watch her go through all this. I have always been able to kiss away her boo boos, put a band aid on them or just give her a popsicle. This time it is out of my hands. She just turned 18, is graduating high school in June and starts college in August, this is a time where she should be enjoying her life not worried about her thyroid.

Anyways, now that we know what is going on with her things are beginning to calm down for me. I am sorry to those I have not been able to visit with due to this. Family is always number one in my life and I appreciate you all understanding this.

XOXO,

Tori
